I have a special request today -- it's one I don't make very often. I'm asking you to chip in a donation to support College Democrats of Illinois State University.
Back in 2022, just one day before Election Day, I actually spent a few hours canvassing in the main quad at Illinois State. I was handing out literature and reminding folks to vote for me, and answer any last-minute questions about my platform.
On campus at ISU before Election Day.
Much to my surprise, almost every single student I interacted with already knew who I was. I got a ton of responses like, "I got you, Eric!" and "I recognize you, you can count me."
It turns out, the College Democrats had already done a ton of legwork -- organizing the student body and doing voter registration. Illinois State sits in McClean County, which is home to a sizable voting base in my district. McClean ended up being our best performing county — we won by over 60%!
I strongly believe a huge part of our success was the hard work of the College Democrats at Illinois State University. These students gave it their all, and that's something we'll have to duplicate if we're going to keep this seat blue in 2024.
