Today the Supreme Court heard oral arguments about a controversial Louisiana abortion access law and the court is split. We must be prepared for what’s to come.
This is exactly what we feared, John.
Today the Supreme Court heard oral arguments about a controversial Louisiana abortion access law requiring abortion providers to have admitting privileges in local hospitals – leaving one abortion clinic open in the entire state.
The court appeared split and the decision will likely come down to Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh. This is the the first major abortion case of Kavanaugh’s tenure, which means the stakes couldn’t be higher.
We knew that Kavanaugh was not only guilty of sexual abuse, but that he was an imminent threat to Roe v. Wade – which is why thousands of women stood up to fight his nomination. We rose to the challenge and unleashed national outrage with thousands on the streets at the 2019 Women’s March on Washington and mass protests in D.C.
Just today, hundreds of women and allies took a stand outside the Supreme Court to say that our decisions and our bodies are our choice. But this is only a fraction of what SCOTUS can expect if they defy the lower court ruling and uphold this law.
A woman's fundamental right to choose has never been more threatened.
