October 2023: The Virginia Edition
Welcome to a special edition of the Vote Mama Monthly Newsletter! With just 2 weeks left until Election Day, we’re dedicating this month’s newsletter to highlighting the importance of winning key races in Virginia.
WHY VIRGINIA?:
It’s no secret that abortion is on the ballot this year. Virginia is the ONLY Southern state that hasn’t passed an abortion ban after the fall of Roe. Protecting abortion access in Virginia is key to protecting abortion access in the South.
But Governor Youngkin has vowed to enact an abortion ban if the GOP consolidates their power. He’s also pledged to kick his dangerous agenda into high gear and enact other far-right policies that threaten our families, our schools, and our safety. If Republicans win control of the State Senate and maintain control of the House of Delegates, Virginia will have a Republican trifecta.
These November races will determine the fate of Virginia and have major implications for 2024. We cannot afford to give the GOP any momentum. The good news is that Democrats currently hold the Senate, and we need just 3 SEATS to FLIP the House of Delegates.
OUR VIRGINIA CANDIDATES:
We’ve known for a long time how crucial the elections in Virginia are, which is why we made the strategic decision to get involved in these races early and to invest a ton of resources into helping our VA candidates. Vote Mama has jumped into battleground races and has endorsed 16 pro-choice Democratic mamas running for the Virginia General Assembly who are ready to roll up their sleeves and fight back against Glenn Youngkin’s extremist agenda. Here’s a look at our mamas!

Our team has been rallying behind our Virginia candidates in big ways. We’ve mobilized volunteers on the ground, we’ve hosted major fundraising events to raise critical dollars, and we’ve partnered with national advocates to get the word out and lift up their campaigns.
