Hey there,

I wanted to make sure you saw the below from my team last week. Betsy DeVos is finally saying the quiet part out loud: Despite serving as Secretary of Education for four years, she doesn’t believe that the Department of Education should exist.

And although she’s no longer a cabinet member, she and the rest of the DeVos family are still working to influence our education system — by supporting candidates who will advocate for their particular policies at the national level. Late last month, the DeVos family contributed $46,200 to one of my potential Republican opponents, former Congressman Mike Rogers, because they know that when he’s elected he will advocate for those same burn—it—down policies in the Senate — even if it comes at the expense of Michigan families.

Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of the support from big money culture war donors that my eventual Republican opponent will receive. That’s why I would love to earn your support today: When we all come together and chip in, it serves as a strong rebuttal to the DeVos-level influence in this race. Will you chip in now?

As Michiganders know, for decades the DeVos family’s #1 issue has been weakening Michigan's, and the country's, public education system. Betsy DeVos used Michigan as her petri dish before becoming Trump’s Secretary of Education, and his longest serving cabinet secretary – just about the full four years. That’s why Betsy DeVos’ tweet and article this week are particularly head-shaking:

Betsy DeVos Tweet: "Happy Birthday to an agency that should NEVER have been created. Shut Down the Department of Education. Why the department does more harm than good - and how we could actually help students" - Betsy DeVos

She’s finally saying the quiet part out loud: Betsy DeVos was Trump’s longest serving cabinet secretary and oversaw a department she didn’t even believe should exist. She took a salary and traveled on the taxpayers’ dime, all while working to run the organization she was leading into the ground.

But that fight didn’t end when Betsy DeVos left her cabinet position. For years, the DeVos family has funded candidates who will push their particular policies at the national level. And just this week, we got a glimpse into who they’re backing to be Michigan’s next Senator when former Congressman Mike Rogers filed his FEC report. In the first month of his campaign, the DeVos family has shown they’re all-in on sending Mike Rogers to the Senate – contributing over $46,200, all in one day.

We know that this is just the beginning of the support Mike Rogers will receive from big money donors. This is why we’re asking: Will you help us push back against the influence of the DeVos family in our race by chipping in today? It really does all add up – their big checks don’t hold a candle to the power of lots and lots of people giving a little at a time.
