It’s voting season! Now more than ever, it’s important to get the millions of Americans who have an election this year to make a plan to vote ahead of Election Day. A lot of people are talking about the 2024 presidential election, but before we get there, critical local and state elections are happening across the country right now.

So, what's on the ballot this year? Let's break it down:

Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi:

→ Governors are up for election this year, and they will make critical decisions that impact the entire state.

→ Secretaries of state are also on the ballot. They play an important role in how the 2024 presidential election will run, including certifying election results and implementing voting laws.

→ Attorneys general have a significant impact on the criminal justice system in the state.

Pennsylvania:

→ There's a state Supreme Court election this year. The court makes critical decisions on issues ranging from abortion and gerrymandering to overturning wrongful convictions and LGBTQIA+ rights.

State Legislature Elections:

→ Louisiana, Mississippi, Virginia, and New Jersey have state legislature elections, with winners passing laws that can affect reproductive rights, criminal justice reform, the environment, taxes, jobs, and more.

→ In Virginia, all 40 Senate seats and all 100 House seats are up for election.

Mayoral Elections:

→ Across the country, including in cities like Philadelphia, Houston, and Charlotte, voters will decide who their mayors will be. Many of these mayors serve as the chief executive with veto power over the city council — impacting millions of Americans.

City Council Elections:

→ Whether you're in New York or New Mexico, who represents you in your city council is on the ballot this year. These are the people whose decisions directly impact your day-to-day life, from potholes and trash pickup to school funding and policing in your neighborhood.

Specific Issues on the Ballot:

→ In Ohio, voters will weigh in on whether to codify abortion as part of the state's constitution and whether to legalize recreational marijuana.

→ Voters in Texas and Maine will decide on issues like funding for state parks and universities and establishing a public power company.
