Big news! Brand New Congress candidate Adrienne Bell was our first primary win in 2018, and now she’s done it again with our first win for the 2020 cycle! Adrienne won her primary in Texas’ 14th district by sweeping margins last night: 25,917 votes, representing 61%!

The first time we heard Adrienne speak, we knew: She’s fighting for all the right reasons. That’s why we are beyond proud of her win, and it’s thanks to supporters like you who helped make it happen.

We are also really proud that Mike Siegel in Texas’ 10th district garnered 44% and 35,387 votes. Mike, a civil attorney who has represented migrants and workers’ rights, will be going on to a runoff. Mike also ran in 2018 and went on to the general where he nearly beat Republican incumbent Michael McCaul. We feel like this is the year Mike will flip this key district in Texas!

A moderate nominee may have won the majority of states on Super Tuesday, but don’t get disheartened. Super Tuesday exit polls point to a massive shift away from the status quo on policies like universal healthcare.

In 2018, Brand New Congress ran eight candidates in Texas who made tremendous strides in moving voters to support progressive policies, and last night it really showed. In a state that is touted as “deeply red” by pundits, we have seen a real shift in recent years.

Bernie Sanders Presidential race nearly won Texas, and nearly 900,000 voters voted for candidates running on a platform that includes Medicare for All and a Green New Deal. We can’t overstate how important this is for the future of our movement.

We’ve begun 2020 with some impressive primary results for Brand New Congress candidates. This is only the beginning. We have dozens of House and Senate candidates facing primaries against establishment challengers, so we are building phone banking and field teams to help ALL our candidates win!
