Jake, a Special Olympics Massachusetts athlete, lives by his family’s official mantra: “Why do we fall down? SO WE CAN GET BACK UP!”
Experiencing a young athlete’s worst nightmare, Jake injured his knee, tore his ACL, underwent surgery, and soldiered through almost a year of challenging physical therapy – all during the COVID-19 pandemic. While he lost his chance to participate in so many Special Olympics Unified basketball and track opportunities, while he had to literally learn to walk again, Jake never lost faith.
He never gave up. He GOT BACK UP! And he was there for the last game of the basketball season, when he scored a decisive basket in spite of the odds and his long recovery.
Special Olympics gives athletes with intellectual disabilities (ID) the community and compassion to become MORE than athletes. They become fighters, leaders, and friends. To help power this movement of wins on and off the field, our Founding Partner, The Coca-Cola Company, is 2X matching donations right now, up to $50,000 – can you chip in??
Committed supporters of the magic of Special Olympics – like you – never forget why we’ve been around since 1968. You never forget why we provide inclusive leadership programs, free health screenings, all-levels games and training, and once-in-a-lifetime chances for kids and adults of ALL abilities to become their true selves.
Today we’re launching one FINAL push this month to surge support for Special Olympics athletes. Give TWICE the athletes with ID still waiting on the sidelines their first chance to get in the game:
Remember why we fall down… To get back up!
