Friends and neighbors,
Last week, the state’s budget office released a new report projecting a budget surplus of more than $2 billion for the upcoming budget cycle. It follows on the heels of Minnesota’s record $17 billion surplus last session.
These surpluses were built on your backs. While government’s bank accounts are flush with cash, I talk to regular Minnesotans every day who continue to struggle with inflation and the costs of everyday needs like food, gas, and energy.
Democrats promised to use last session’s historic surplus to provide relief. They didn’t. Instead, they dramatically increased spending by 40% and raised taxes on Minnesotans by over $9 billion. This is a disservice to everyone who is struggling to make ends meet. You deserve permanent, serious tax relief, not more runaway spending.
What happened last session cannot happen again. My priority for 2024 will be the significant tax cuts you deserve. The surplus belongs back in your pockets, not Gov. Walz’s.
State budgets are swelling to unprecedented levels because we continue to take too much from taxpayers. If we want to stimulate real economic growth that benefits all Minnesotans, makes it easier for families to afford the essentials, and gives everyone a chance to improve their finances, then it begins with people keeping more of their hard-earned money.
No more reckless spending. No more misdirection of “relief” distributing $250 rebate checks while raising billions in taxes. We need real tax cuts.
I would appreciate your feedback, so please reach out with any thoughts or concerns. It is an honor to represent you.
