Mule deer release

Mule Deer Monitoring Project provides valuable information on winter mortality and movement

A five-year, groundbreaking project by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to study mule deer in the Cowboy State is underway. This project, which started in late 2022, takes a deeper data dive by researching six areas considered critical for mule deer management: abundance, composition, data management, survival, herd health and harvest management. *One of the primary research questions the project hopes to address is abundance ? how many individual mule deer are in each of the state?s herds. Dry Piney wildlife crossing project complete

Dry Piney wildlife crossing

The Dry Piney wildlife crossing project, led by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and the Wyoming Department of Transportation, is now complete and big game animals are actively using the underpasses. The project includes nine underpasses and 17 miles of 8-foot tall fencing on both sides of U.S. Highway 189 to encourage big game, primarily mule deer and pronghorn, to use the underpasses and avoid wildlife-vehicle collisions. *Learn more about the crossing and access the recording of the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Swift foxes at Laramie Airport collared, relocated to Pilot Hill

Swift foxes

At the end of July, Wyoming Game and Fish Department responded to a call about a den of swift foxes near a runway at the Laramie Regional Airport. Animals on or near airport runways must be euthanized or relocated because of the danger they pose to planes taking off and landing. *Game and Fish was able to work collaboratively with the Airport and the Holbrook Team at the University of Wyoming to relocate seven swift foxes to the Pilot Hill area.* [ [link removed], ]
