Battleground Texas

Friend,

Since 2012, Republicans in Texas have shut down 750 polling places across the state -- mostly in Black, Latinx, and college communities. Last night, we saw the results of all those years of voter suppression efforts.

Voters in Dallas, Houston, and on college campuses waited in line for more than two hours to vote.

Hervis Rogers, a voter at Texas Southern University, waited seven hours to cast his ballot. And after he was finally able to vote at 1:30 a.m., he told reporters he had to head directly to his night shift, which he was already late for.

This is completely unacceptable in a country that prides itself on democracy. Texas Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for working so hard to stifle the vote.

It’s also why beating them this year is critically important -- that’s why we set a goal of registering 200,000 new voters this cycle, and we need your help to get there.

Chip in right now, and let’s make sure Texas Republicans lose their seats for trying to hold back our democracy.

Despite the GOP’s best efforts to suppress the vote, Texas still surpassed the voter turnout in the 2016 primary. That means countless people across the state waited for more than two hours to make sure their voices were heard.

The determination and grit of all those people is inspiring, but if we had a true democracy -- one that encouraged everyone to participate instead of making it harder -- we’d never allow wait times like that in the first place.

Let’s make sure we elect people who want to expand voting rights and ballot access, not shrink them -- donate to our voter registration fund now.

Thanks,

Team Battleground Texas
