Where are crime victimization rates highest?

Americans report millions of violent and property crimes each year, but overall crime rates have decreased since the 1990s. Crime affects people differently based on their age and other factors, including where they live. Violent victimizations per 1,000 people
  • In 2015, children ages 12–14 were most likely to report being the victims of violent crimes in both urban and rural areas. The second-highest urban rate was among people ages 21–24, while rural areas’ second-highest rate was among people 35–49.
