The Texas Tribune:
“Texas House Republicans Unveil Priority Voucher Bill”
Last week, Texas Republicans unveiled House Bill 1, the latest effort in their aggressive campaign to attack public schools and reduce fair access to education.
If you agree with Dr. Brian Williams that Texas needs to support ALL public schools, not vouchers, add your name to this petition >> [link removed]
John —
Dr. Brian Williams is the proud product of public schools. Growing up, he and his sister received a quality public education that would eventually guide his path toward a career as an engineer for the Air Force and later as a trauma surgeon in Texas.
Now more than ever, he believes that a strong public school system with well-qualified, well-paid teachers is an investment in our future. Public funds belong in public schools. Period.
Voucher schemes divert taxpayer dollars from our already-underfunded public education system to support private institutions. These policies disproportionately hurt rural schools, exclude students with disabilities, and increase segregation in the Texas school system.
With Texas teachers' salaries already over $7,000 below the national average, bills like HB1 would further slash teacher’s salaries and threaten the very survival of underserved school districts around Texas.
Dr. Brian Williams believes that every child in Texas deserves a quality education and an equal opportunity to thrive. That’s why he stands against HB1 and other “voucher bills.” Are you with him? Add your name to this petition to stand against vouchers and for Texas public schools >> [link removed]
