Dear Supporter,
Named one of the “100 Most Important Americans of the 20th Century” by Life magazine and the first female athlete to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Billie Jean King captured 39 Grand Slam singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles, including a record 20 Wimbledon championships.
Her historic win over Bobby Riggs in the 1973 Battle of the Sexes is one of the greatest moments in sports history. Billie Jean King’s victory in this match, together with the passage of Title IX, is often credited with both igniting a boom in women’s sports participation, and for empowering women to advocate for equal pay in all sectors of the workforce. Reflecting on the 50 year anniversary of this historic match, Billie Jean King recently shared that “This match was about much more than tennis. It was about social change.”
RSVP by Friday, November 3 to join us as we celebrate sports icon and equality champion, Billie Jean King.
