I hope you and your families are safe and healthy. I am reaching out to inform you of two opportunities for students in the 38th Congressional District of California!
Congressional App Challenge
This year my office is participating in the 2023 Congressional App Challenge (CAC)!
The CAC is a nationwide competition encouraging middle and high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The CAC is designed to promote innovation and engagement in computer science while encouraging our nation’s young programming talent.
 This competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience.
Students are encouraged to register online and submit their deadlines by November 1st.
The winner from CA38 Congressional District will be featured on CongressionalAppChallenge.us and will also be eligible to have their winning app on display in the U.S. Capitol.

Military Academy Nominations
Lastly, we are approaching the deadline to request my nomination to attend a military academy.
Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies:
- U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY
- U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD
- U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO
- U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY
The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
Applications to receive a military academy nomination from my office are due by November 9th.
Students should confirm they reside in California’s 38th Congressional District before applying.
