ICYMI: Kansas Sets an Example
by Prioritizing Water
*"
KEY QUOTE: "*“Kansas is getting its priorities in line, starting with the most valuable resource of all — water. Other states, even those that are water wealthy, like Missouri, would be wise to do the same.”
*Our view: Other states should follow Kansas’ lead* [ [link removed] ]

* Kansas has demonstrated again that water will be a priority, and it’s a path we’d all be smart to follow.
* Recently, Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announced that Vijay Ramasamy has joined her administration to serve as special advisor for water, and he will work with state and local partners on shared water policy goals and develop strategies addressing short- and long-term threats to water quality and quantity.
* It follows Kelly’s signing of a bipartisan bill this summer that increases funding for the State Water Plan. (In 2022, Kelly fully funded the State Water Plan for the first time since 2008.)
* State Rep. Jim Minnix, R-Scott City, noted at the time, “Water is one of our most vital natural resources and has been taken for granted far too long.” Not just by Kansans, but by all of us.
* The future of the "[Ogallala]" Aquifer isn’t just vital to Kansas farmers...the aquifer supplies water to producers who grow one-sixth of the world’s grain.
