Hi, UnitedHealth Group has rapidly become the largest health care conglomerate in the country.1 This has allowed the giant corporation to make money off of every aspect of the health industry, incentivizing a focus on profit over patient care. Now, the giant corporation is trying to purchase another health care company, Amedisys, for a whopping $3.3 billion. UnitedHealth is already abusing its massive power. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Justice (DOJ) can’t let it get any bigger. In a letter to the FTC and DOJ, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Rep. Pramila Jayapal urged the agencies to crack down on anticompetitive mergers that would allow corporations like UnitedHealth to abuse their market dominance, unfairly raise prices, and negatively impact patients.2 UnitedHealth’s level of market control leads to higher prices and worse patient outcomes. In fact, audits of Medicare Advantage plans found that UnitedHealth overcharged the federal government by millions of dollars.3 Corporate health care mergers are a threat to patients, workers, and the entire industry — and UnitedHealth’s attempt to buy up Amedisys for $3.3 billion will make this threat even more serious. Add your name: Patients over corporate profits! Stop UnitedHealth. Thanks for taking action, Sources:
