SAG-AFTRA marks 100 days on strike and heads to the bargaining table

Saturday, October 21 marked Day 100 of the SAG-AFTRA actors and performing artists strike, now the longest strike in the unions' history. That same day SAG-AFTRA confirmed that "company executives have asked us to return to the table and official negotiations will resume on Tuesday, October 24." We remain in solidarity with the negotiating committee and members of SAG-AFTRA's Washington-Mid Atlantic Local as bargaining begins.

UAW rejects newest offer from Big Three and 6,800 workers join strike

Earlier today 6,800 UAW members at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Sterling Heights, MI joined the UAW strike, shutting down production at Stellantis’ largest and most profitable plant. They join just days after UAW rejected the most recent offer from the Big Three automakers. "We've looked at the company's proposals," UAW president Shawn Fain said in a live address on Friday. "And in my opinion, and in the opinion of the Vice Presidents and your national negotiators, there is more to be won."

 

MPU Union ratifies contract with Washington-Baltimore News Guild 

On Thursday, staff of More Perfect Union announced that they've ratified their first union contract with Washington-Baltimore News Guild, Local 32035. The contract contains unlimited PTO with a 20 day minimum, a comprehensive severance package, the creation of a DEI working group, improved sick leave, COLA, pay equity, and much more.

 

Lipton members with UFCW Local 400 ratify strong new union contract

UFCW Local 400 members working at the ekaterra Lipton Tea plant in Suffolk, VA, voted to ratify a strong new four-year collective bargaining agreement.

The new contract provides for an unprecedented 18% wage increase over a three-year period, in addition to a number of benefits. Read more.

Top: Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO president Dyana Forester joined AFL-CIO president Liz Shuler and NoVA Labor, allied unions, legislators, and community partners for a labor canvas supporting candidates who prioritize working families and labor interests in Virginia.
