Dear Friend,

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In the United States, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men aged 18 and older have endured severe physical violence from their partner at some point in their lives. Intimate partner violence alone affects more than 12 million people every year. 1 in 10 high school students has experienced physical violence from a dating partner in the past year.

At Peace Over Violence, we know that all violence is interconnected and domestic violence is a root cause of many social harms. We launched our Domestic Violence Action Fund ([link removed]) several years ago to help make these connections and encourage us all to Imagine Life Without Domestic Violence.

This year, we launched a new gun violence prevention campaign ([link removed]) , in part due to a statewide grant through CPEDV, highlighting the connection between gun violence and domestic violence and the availability of gun violence restraining orders. There is an 8x increased homicide risk when the perpetrator is an intimate partner or relative of the victim. Gun violence has become an even more critical issue in the country. Gun violence is pervasive and gun violence is preventable.

** Congratulations to our new volunteer graduates!
------------------------------------------------------------

Congratulations to the graduates of our fall training session! This dual training was for both Counselor Advocate Volunteers and Violence Prevention Specialists. Counselor Advocate volunteers staff our 24/7 emergency hotline and respond with our Sexual Abuse and Domestic Abuse Response Teams (SART & DART). Violence Prevention Specialists represent POV in the community at events and trainings. Thank you to all for your commitment! Volunteers are essential to the work that we do. Stay tuned for more info on upcoming trainings and how to get involved with POV.
