Friends —
One of the biggest victories for our movement in passing last year’s Inflation Reduction Act was securing funding for the creation of the first-ever American Climate Corps.
This new program, inspired by the historic jobs programs of President FDR’s New Deal, was unveiled by the White House a few weeks ago, and will put tens of thousands of Americans to work on clean energy, land restoration, and climate resiliency projects across the country. That’s huge.
Make no mistake — this accomplishment would not be possible without the tireless work of the Green New Deal movement. Young climate activists had called for a civilian climate corps for years before this moment. Without that advocacy, we almost certainly wouldn’t have made this incredible step towards a green future.
But the truth is, we still have so much work to do to build on this progress and fully confront the climate emergency unfolding before us.
So today, we’re asking for your help with one simple action. Ed is fighting for a Green New Deal in Congress — with a Green New Deal for Health and a Green New Deal for Public Schools — and we’re looking to show that our call for jobs, justice, and climate action has real grassroots support.
We were able to achieve the creation of the Climate Corps as well as historic investments in clean energy and climate justice because this movement never lets up.
We organized, protested, lobbied, campaigned, and put pressure on elected leaders at every level to set the agenda on climate. No one did it alone, and that includes Ed. It took a grassroots movement. So please,
In solidarity,
Team Markey
