News from Representative Hayes

Dear John,

Welcome to your Weekly Wrap, a recap of the week in Congress and highlights of my work.

There is very little to report legislatively, as I spent the entire week in Washington waiting for a Speaker vote to be called.

Tomorrow will mark three weeks since the House of Representatives has been without a Speaker – this means three weeks of no substantive floor votes and three weeks of no legislation passed, putting our nation three weeks closer to a catastrophic government shutdown. Further, as the wars between Hamas and Israel and Russia and Ukraine continue to rage, the House remains paralyzed in its ability to provide any kind of aid.

Last week, Republican Speaker Designee, Jim Jordan (OH-04) failed to get enough votes to be elected Speaker of the House, losing support from within the Republican Conference in each successive vote series throughout the week.

As we move into this next week, it is clear that the Republican party still has no Representative who can garner the support of 217 of their members.

My Democratic colleagues and I have made clear we are willing to find a bipartisan pathway to reopening the House so we can continue advancing solutions on behalf of the American people.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. As always, please continue to share your thoughts and priorities with me.
