Public Policy Action Alert

Dear John,

Yes, regular physical activity and eating right are important for healthy aging, but they are not enough to treat obesity. That’s why we need your voice to ensure that the 18 million people with Medicare who are living with obesity can get the care they need.

Obesity is a disease that increases the risk of conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Yet, Medicare is prohibited from covering all FDA approved obesity treatments.

Right now, Congress is considering the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act [[link removed]] (TROA) to solve this problem.

Tell Congress to make obesity care affordable

TROA would provide coverage for anti-obesity medications under Medicare Part D. These medications are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and are proven to help individuals achieve significant weight loss, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. The act also would provide Medicare coverage for the full range of obesity treatments, including nutrition counseling, behavioral therapy, and community-based programs.
