John,
Young voters in the Valley did it!
It was close, but in Tuesday's Democratic primary a majority of voters in Senate District 27 cast a ballot AGAINST Sen. Eddie Lucio and for one of his opponents, keeping him just under 50 percent and forcing him into a May 26 runoff.
This first step in unseating the senator was powered by members of TFN's youth organizing arm, Texas Rising Action, in the Rio Grande Valley who worked to mobilize the anti-Lucio vote.
Now we have this 30-year incumbent on the ropes, and the days of him cruising to reelection without having to answer for his anti-LGBT, anti-abortion and anti-public education record are officially over.
Beating Dan Patrick's go-to Democrat in the Senate will be tough, but in Tuesday's primary young voters in the Rio Grande Valley proved progressive values can win in this district. And in the weeks leading up to May 26, Texas Rising Action will mobilize again to finally beat him.
Which is why we're calling on your activism right now. Can you chip in $5, $10, $25 or whatever you can today to fuel this fight? Every single dollar makes a difference in this movement!
Now let's win this.
In the fight,
Carisa Lopez
