Hi, did you catch our important message earlier this week?
You can read the original email below, but, if you’re short on time, here’s the big takeaway: A freeze is coming — and we’re not talking about the weather!
As Attorney General, I’m legally required to shut down all fundraising on December 9th until next spring.
But our anti-choice Republican opponent, Dave Reichert, is not a state elected official so this fundraising freeze does not apply to him. In other words, he will be free to raise millions of dollars to defeat us, while our fundraising is completely frozen.
That’s why we need to significantly increase our fundraising efforts now. Can you pitch in $5 or any amount you can to help me raise as much as possible before December 9th?
You can read more about our upcoming fundraising freeze below.
Thank you!
— Bob
In less than two months, state law requires Bob to pause all fundraising until the spring. No checks, no pledges, no online donations — nothing! We turn off our donation page and if you send us a check — we send it back!
Why? Washington’s law prohibits state elected officials from fundraising starting a month before the legislature is in session. The freeze continues until the legislature concludes next spring. Because Bob is our Attorney General, this law applies to him.
If that wasn’t bad enough — it gets worse! Anti-choice Republican Dave Reichert isn’t a state elected official, which means he’s not subject to the same freeze. During the months Bob can’t fundraise, Reichert will be free to raise millions.
Seems a little unfair, doesn’t it?
That’s why it’s crucial we raise as much as possible before the freeze begins. We’re not just fundraising for the next two months — we’re fundraising for the next six!
The freeze begins December 9th. We need to ensure that when the fundraising freeze is lifted in the spring, Bob has the resources to compete with Dave Reichert. And we’re counting on grassroots supporters like you to help us do it.
Thanks for your support,
Ferguson HQ
