Early voting is happening right now in Ohio, and there’s a lot on the line.

Voters will decide whether to guarantee the right to an abortion and whether to legalize recreational marijuana. And the outcomes of municipal elections will have profound effects on people’s lives — from schools and health care to the criminal legal system.

But some extremist politicians want to stop eligible voters from casting their ballots and being able to help make those decisions.

Earlier this year, Ohio Republicans enacted what has been referred to as the strictest voter ID law in the country — requiring photo IDs, such as passports or driver’s licenses, to vote while prohibiting the use of student IDs or county-issued veterans’ IDs. As a result, we saw an uptick in ballot rejections for the state’s special election in August.

We can expect more anti-voter attacks like these ahead of the 2024 election cycle. But we’re fighting back. In Ohio, we’re training pro-democracy elected officials as part of our Fair Fight National Fellowship Program, providing them with the tools they need to protect the freedom to vote in their communities. And across the country, we’ll keep fighting to elect pro-voter candidates and defeat anti-democracy extremists.
