One of Ayanna’s favorite parts of serving in Congress is being in community with constituents. It’s these moments that ground her in the power of this movement. It’s these moments from which she draws her inspiration and commitment to deliver the bold, transformative change we need.
We wanted to share some of these moments from this year with you today. Check out a few of the highlights from the field in 2023 so far. And if you’re able, please pitch in $8 or anything you can to strengthen our movement and make sure Ayanna can continue fighting for us in Congress.
Centering Black Men
For far too long, Black men have been left out of the conversation, and narratives have focused on the trauma and challenges of Black men rather than all that they contribute to society. Ayanna for Black Men is a program that creates space to listen to Black men’s dreams and aspirations and celebrate the critical role that Black men play in our community and democracy.
Earlier this year, Ayanna hosted a Black Men You Deserve to Grow Old event, where we explored new practices to improve their health and wellness, including yoga and massage.
Rallying for Student Debt Cancellation
In February, Ayanna joined advocates, borrowers, and members of Congress outside the Supreme Court to rally in support of President Biden’s student debt cancellation plan. The rally coincided with the Supreme Court’s hearing of oral arguments in two cases challenging the legality of the Biden Administration’s student debt cancellation program. The energy was strong, and so was the turnout.
While the corrupt and extreme Supreme Court obstructed President Biden’s initial plan to cancel student debt for millions of borrowers, Ayanna is not letting up in the fight to deliver broad-based student debt cancellation.
Marching at Boston Pride 🌈
At Boston’s first Pride parade since the pandemic, Ayanna rode alongside the LGBTQ+ Senior Coalition to celebrate the role that our LGBTQ+ seniors have played in paving the way for equal rights.
Ayanna has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, speaking up to affirm gender equality and protect our transgender community. Most recently, she worked closely with her Senate partners to restore funding for the Pryde LGBTQ+ senior housing in August after Republicans stripped critical funds.
Introducing the Abortion Justice Act
Ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Dobbs decision in June this year, Ayanna introduced the Abortion Justice Act. This legislation, which Ayanna describes as a north star and a love letter to the movement, puts forth a comprehensive vision of a just America where abortion care is readily available – without stigma, shame or systemic barriers – for all who seek it.
The state of the abortion justice movement is strong.
Ayanna couldn’t do this essential work in our communities without your generous support. If you believe this is the type of people-centered leadership our communities deserve, please pitch in $8 or anything you can to support Ayanna’s re-election campaign.
Thanks for being a part of this movement. Together, we'll create a just future for all of us.
