Well, John, it's been almost two weeks since we wrote to you about the state of the U.S. House, and we're still without a speaker.
Earlier this month, Trump loyalists led by Rep. Matt Gaetz ousted Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the House. Now, Republicans are unable to agree on a new speaker, bringing legislative activity to a standstill.
We're reliving the weeks-long deliberations and dozen-plus votes leading to McCarthy's election in January. And this time, the stakes are even higher, as a government shutdown looms next month.
The lesson here is crystal clear, John: Republicans are willing to make the American people pay for the chaos and division of their own party.

After months of Republican infighting, House members voted to remove Kevin McCarthy as speaker last Tuesday, stalling most congressional activity and throwing the party into chaos. And the people responsible for bringing our democracy to a halt are proud of their work!
We need to know where this pro-choice community stands, John. Take our short survey on the House Republicans' agenda now >>
John, House Republicans are in complete chaos.
After months of Republican infighting and threats from Trump loyalists, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy became the first speaker to be ousted in American history.
Americans have been paying the price for a dysfunctional House majority since early January. Republicans spent weeks in disarray before eventually electing former Speaker McCarthy, and their scramble to find a new speaker means yet another government shutdown is on the horizon.
This chaos is exactly what we can expect from today's Republican party, John: These are politicians who simply cannot govern. Americans need representatives in Congress who will fight for our fundamental rights and protect our democracy — not destroy them.
We're asking pro-choice activists across the country to weigh in. Do you approve of the House under Republican leadership?
Thank you for making your voice heard,
