Gov. Justice participates in groundbreaking of largest manufacturing investment in state history

Gov. Jim Justice joined the Nucor Corporation in a groundbreaking ceremony for the company’s state-of-the-art sheet steel mill in Mason County. The record investment will exceed $2.7 billion, making it the largest in West Virginia history, as well as the largest single investment Nucor has ever made.

“Nucor's decision to invest in West Virginia represents a true vote of confidence in our state's strength, resilience, and readiness to seize opportunities,” Gov. Justice said. “This is more than just a construction project. It’s a symbol of progress and the promise of a brighter future for our communities and families for generations to come.”

Nucor Corporation, which utilizes electric arc furnaces to turn recycled scrap metal into steel, is North America's largest recycler of any material. This steelmaking process makes Nucor one of the cleanest steel producers in the world and a leader in sustainable steel production.

Gov. Justice celebrates early opening of new RHL Boulevard connector

Governor Justice, along with State Transportation Secretary Jimmy Wriston, P.E., and local officials, celebrated the early opening of a new road connecting Jefferson Road and the Trace Fork shopping center in South Charleston. The project was funded through the $2.8 billion Roads to Prosperity road construction program initiated by Governor Justice. This opening is timely for the upcoming holiday shopping season.

"This is a fantastic day and more proof our Roads to Prosperity program is working off the charts," Gov. Justice said. "This project has been on the books for over 20 years, and it took the right people working at the right time to make it happen. Isn't it unbelievable what our Department of Transportation and Division of Highways have done? It's truly incredible. They deserve a gigantic round of applause, because this is another fantastic ribbon-cutting for a huge project.”

Gov. Justice announces opening of Posey Perry Emergency Food Fund to address food insecurity in West Virginia

Gov. Justice announced the launch of the Posey Perry Emergency Food Fund, a $10 million reserve account dedicated to combating food insecurity in West Virginia.

The emergency fund supports ([link removed]) the state's largest food banks, Mountaineer Food Bank and Facing Hunger Foodbank. Together, these organizations provide meals to food pantries across all 55 counties in West Virginia.

"We won't allow West Virginians to go hungry during the holiday season when food insecurity is a big concern," Gov. Justice said. "The Posey Perry Emergency Food Fund gives our food banks a little extra help to make sure everyone has food on their table. When we pull the rope together, we can make amazing things happen, and this is an example. I'm thankful for the great work our food banks do, and I know this is going to really make a difference for West Virginia families."

Pantries associated with the Mountaineer Food Bank and Facing Hunger Foodbank network are strongly encouraged to seek funding by contacting these organizations directly.

First Lady Cathy Justice invites students to create ornaments for the 2023 First Lady Student Ornament Competition

First Lady Cathy Justice is inviting all West Virginia students to participate in the nineteenth annual First Lady Student Ornament Competition.

All kindergarten through 12th grade students who are public, private, or home-schooled are encouraged to “Deck the Halls with Doggy Paws” by creating a “dog” themed Christmas ornament to honor West Virginia’s canine companions. When creating their ornament, classes are asked to focus on West Virginia’s Friends With Paws school therapy dogs or Babydog Justice. The ornaments will be on display at the Culture Center in Charleston during the holiday season.

Communities In School Spotlight: Clay County

Communities In Schools (CIS) has been an integral part of Clay County, transforming lives and fostering a strong sense of belonging among students, families, and the community.

Clay County has a total of six schools under the CIS umbrella, including Clay County High School, Clay County Middle School, Clay Elementary School, Big Otter Elementary School, Lizemore Elementary School, and H. E. White Elementary School. At the heart of the program are nine devoted Site Coordinators, each bringing their unique passion and expertise.
