Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here The House Republican Leadership Race The American people expect House Republicans to govern, lead, and deliver conservative wins. I will not vote to surrender any of the power of the Republican House Majority to the Democrats. House Republicans must unite under one Speaker to lead our country in the right direction by passing fiscally conservative spending bills, securing our border, and combating the crime crisis. I will not support any effort to create a temporary speaker that will only prolong this dilemma and hinder House Republicans from working on behalf of our country. We should not leave DC until we have a duly elected Republican Speaker with all the powers necessary to preside over the House. Supporting Israel's Right to Defend Itself This war is not the Palestinians “fighting the occupation," these attacks orchestrated by Hamas terrorists have two goals: to eradicate the state of Israel and to kill as many Jews as possible. We have a moral obligation to support Israel and a clear economic incentive. Israel is one of our largest trading partners, with over $49 billion in annual trade. This supports over 255,000 jobs, and over 2,500 U.S. firms operate in Israel. These industries are vital to our economy, underscoring the significance of defending our democratic ally in the Middle East. That is why I introduced the “Operation Swords of Iron” Iron Dome Supplemental Appropriations Act to appropriate $2 billion for the Iron Dome defense system. We must support Israel in its right to defend itself against these terrorists! Combatting the NYC Migrant Crisis More than 126,000 migrants have come to NYC to take advantage of its sanctuary city status. Mayor Adam is shifting this crisis from NYC to all of New York and if he gets his wish, to all small communities nationwide. Mayor Adams recently announced that he plans to issue an emergency decree that would, for the first time, allow people to use city-funded housing vouchers anywhere in the Empire State. Now that he plans to kick all these migrants out of his shelters, he will direct these homeless illegal immigrants right to our communities! These migrants should never have been allowed into the country in the first place, its time to deport them! Holding Iran Accountable for the Attacks on Israel The United States must stand firmly with our strongest ally in the Middle East and hold Iran accountable for backing the barbaric and heinous attacks on Israel. Since day one, the Biden administration has appeased Iran, and even appointed Iranian assets into high level government positions. Iran's involvement in funding, training, and arming Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists is indisputable, and ultimately, Iran is fundamentally responsible for the horrific and brutal invasion of Israel. The United States must be steadfast in our support of Israel, and that includes holding Iran accountable for fueling these horrific crimes against innocent civilians. Anti-Semitism should not be tolerated in academia or any other part of a civilized society. Professor Rickford holds a position within the university that allows him to mold and influence young minds. This position demands a higher standard of behavior, one that is free from anti-Semitic rhetoric and the vocal support of terrorism. By perpetuating these abhorrent views, Professor Rickford has not only violated his ethical responsibility as an educator but has also jeopardized the safety of the Jewish community and tarnished Cornell University's reputation. This week I sent a letter to Cornell University President Martha Pollack demanding Professor Rickford immediately resign for his anti-Semitic and pro-Hamas comments. In 2021 and 2022, 812 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty, making it the deadliest period for law enforcement in decades. One of these fallen heroes, was one of our own. Officer Anthony Mazurkiewicz was tragically shot and killed while on duty in July 2022. His murder was a tragedy that struck at the heart of our community, and just last week justice was finally served as the jury delivered a guilty verdict to his killer. In his honor, I led a bill to rename the Avon Post Office after Officer Anthony Mazurkiewicz. It will be a continuous reminder to our community of his brave sacrifice and heroic service. I will always support our nation’s brave law enforcement officers and will continue pushing back on dangerous “defund the police” rhetoric that continues to put our law enforcement officers in harms way. How do you feel on this issue? Do you support our nation’s law enforcement officers?
