435 is the number of members in the U.S. House of Representatives. That’s a pretty big crowd, with differing opinions. One thing that we can all agree on is the need for additional autism research funding.
Right now, Congressmen Chris Smith (a Republican from New Jersey) and Mike Doyle (a Democrat from Pennsylvania) are circulating what’s known as a Sign On or “Dear Colleague” Letter, that will go in mid-March to top congressional leadership. The letter asks their colleagues to sign-on with them in support of additional autism research funding. This could pay for projects that give us greater understanding about the biology of autism, how to diagnose it earlier, how to help with health conditions commonly experienced by people on the spectrum and how to create more personalized supports and transition-to-adulthood services based upon an individual’s needs and strengths.
Would you be willing to take five minutes, as a constituent in their district, to contact your U.S. representative and ask them to sign onto this letter?
Thank you,
Allee Smith Grassroots Advocacy Manager
