Last year, Michiganders had a plan: When Roe v. Wade was overturned, we had a ballot initiative ready to go that would codify Roe and protect abortion rights here in Michigan. We organized and collected nearly 800,000 signatures in just 8 weeks, fought off legal challenges that arose, and got Issue 3 on the ballot. Then, we organized and talked to voters and, ultimately, the ballot initiative passed 56-43. Michigan has led the way on this issue.
In just a few weeks, Ohio has the opportunity to do the same thing and enshrine the right to choose into their state constitution. This is a big moment for our neighbors to the south: Ohio has already passed an extreme six week abortion ban and while it’s on hold pending a ruling from their state Supreme Court, it could go into effect at any moment.
As a Michigander, I would usually never say this, but: I’m proud to stand with Ohio. But right on cue, Republicans in Ohio are going to do everything they can these last few weeks to undermine this ballot initiative. They’ve already skewed the language that will appear on voters’ ballots and dark-money donors are spending big money to mislead voters.
I’m writing today to ask you to join me in supporting the organization behind this effort –
Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights – in the final few weeks. They are talking to voters, knocking doors, and blanketing the state with yard signs so voters know where to stand when they go to the polls. They are doing the work to win, just exactly as we did in the final weeks here in Michigan.
But early voting in Ohio has already begun, so your support now really does make a huge difference in turning out voters, as well as talking to them before they get to the polls. So, I’m asking: Will you split a contribution between Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights and my campaign today?

I don’t root for Ohio often (or ever, really), but at this moment, when Republicans are waging attacks on reproductive healthcare across the country, I will make an exception. Thank you in advance for joining me.
