Weekly Newsletter: If you feel a sense of whiplash after this past week, you’re not alone.

Hi John,

If you feel a sense of whiplash after this past week in Congress, you’re not alone. Today, Rep. Jim Jordan failed in his third bid to become the speaker of the House and just pulled out of the competition. Between votes, we’ve seen stop-and-start attempts at bipartisan alternatives undermined by partisan politics.

It’s enough to make anyone’s head spin.

What’s worse, we’re seeing Congress at its worst at a time when we need to see our leaders at their best.

Look at what’s happening in the world. In the Middle East, our ally Israel is fighting for its survival against terrorist groups that want to wipe it from the face of the earth. In Europe, Ukraine is continuing to battle heroically against Russia. Meanwhile, in Asia, Chinese leader Xi Jinping welcomed Russian leader Vladimir Putin and other authoritarian leaders for a summit to reaffirm their shared commitment to challenging America and our values of freedom and democracy.

Here at home, our congressional leaders have no plans for how to avert a government shutdown next month. It’s as if Congress has no intention of working for the American people. Let’s elevate leaders who put country before party. America is the strongest nation in the world – but only if we can get past our differences and commit to working together.

In his primetime address to the nation last night from the Oval Office, President Biden said it well: “I know we have our divisions at home. We have to get past them. We can’t let petty, partisan, angry politics get in the way of our responsibilities as a great nation. We cannot and will not let terrorists like Hamas and tyrants like Putin win.”

No Labels is doing its part to unite the country, working with our bipartisan allies in Congress to push for a way to get the House working again for all of us. With your support, we know we can make a difference.
