Unfortunately, House Republicans once again failed to elect a Speaker of the House. I voted for Jim Jordan three separate times. I publicly backed him for Speaker and made the case for Jim Jordan. But after the third vote, when Jim Jordan continued to lose support, House Republicans voted internally to move forward with a new, yet-to-be-determined Speaker nominee.
I said on Sunday that the “pressure campaign” against Republicans opposed to Jim - especially from online personalities - would backfire and would solidify the opposition to Jordan’s candidacy for Speaker of the House. Well, that’s exactly what happened.
The families of Republicans voting against Jim Jordan were even receiving death threats, which is completely unacceptable and disgusting.
Again, I voted for Jim Jordan multiple times and wanted him to become Speaker. But those who called themselves Jordan’s “allies” disrupted his campaign every step of the way and now we need to move forward with a different candidate.
It’s time for Republicans to come together and elect a new Speaker so we can get back to work for the American people. I am hoping that we will get this over with next week and return to our important work of legislating and addressing the challenges facing our country.
