Friends -

In just a moment, I am going to ask you to make a contribution to my Campaign for Democracy PAC. Please give me a chance to explain why this request — especially today — is so important.

Something important happened last night.

A right-wing federal judge overturned California's assault weapons ban. In his ruling — as he has done before — he compared an assault weapon to a knife.

It's an absolute disgrace.

Now let me make two things explicitly clear here:

California has some of the strongest gun laws in the country, and as a result, we have some of the lowest per-capita gun death rates in the country. What we have done here works.

Unless we pass a Constitutional Amendment to make our communities safer from gun violence, no gun laws are safe. Not laws passed in California — not laws passed in Congress.
We took the first step to do just that in California. Our legislature passed a resolution calling for a Constitutional amendment on guns.

One down.

More to go.

So here is what I am asking: we are starting to ramp up our efforts to introduce and pass more of these resolutions in more and more states. That means hiring lobbyists (yes). It means ads. It means on-the-ground organizing.

All of that takes money. But my pledge to you is we will put every dollar we raise from this team to work getting it done. It's that important.

Can I count on you to contribute to my Campaign for Democracy PAC today? We will put every dollar we raise today directly to work introducing and passing resolutions calling for a Constitutional Amendment in more states across the country.

These are weapons made to kill and injure as many people as possible as quickly and as efficiently as possible. They are weapons of war. And they have no business on our streets.

If we can't pass a law banning assault weapons in California, then we can't do it anywhere. It's time for a Constitutional amendment on guns.
