My work in TX-31 and Congress   Howdy Texan – I wanted to share an update on my work for Texas' 31st district in the House. ON THE DOCKET: Speaker's Race What do you think? Congressional App Challenge Serving Central Texans THE BRIEF: The White House said Wednesday that a current intelligence assessment shows Israel was “not responsible” for the explosion at a Gaza hospital. The House GOP conference on Friday voted to drop Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan as its speaker nominee after a third defeat in floor-wide votes earlier today. On Friday, the Biden administration asked Congress to approve a $106 billion package of emergency aid for Israel and Ukraine, as well as funds for the southern U.S. border and other humanitarian needs. SPEAKER'S RACE This week, the House held three separate votes on the floor to fill the Speaker of the House vacancy. I voted for Representative Jim Jordan all three times. Unfortunately, Rep. Jordan came up short, and a majority of House Republicans voted to end Rep. Jordan's candidacy this afternoon. As I've said before, I want a speaker rooted in conservative principles who wants to secure the border, cut spending, and hold the Biden administration accountable. While new candidates will be announced this weekend, I'm approaching this ongoing discussion as I did when I was a judge- I will listen to all of the new candidates and evaluate the evidence. I'll always do what I think is best for Texas' 31st district and the country. Rep. Carter answers a Capitol Hill reporter's questions about the speaker race after a Republican conference meeting. WHAT DO YOU THINK? The White House has sent a formal request to Congress for $106 billion in emergency aid for Ukraine and Israel. This legislation would likely be one package, including aid for both nations. Do you support additional funding for Ukraine and Israel? SERVING CENTRAL TEXANS One of my most important duties as your representative is to help constituents with issues involving federal agencies. Last month, my office assisted 174 Central Texans in cutting through bureaucratic red tape to get passports, veterans benefits, back IRS refunds, and Social Security payments. In addition, so far this year, I've returned over $5.2 million to Central Texans. If you need help with a federal agency, learn more here.
