English Most Common Race or Ethnicity in 2020 Census [ [link removed] ]
For the first time ever, respondents to the 2020 Census who reported White as a race could write in more details.
Together, the English (46.6 million), German (45 million), and Irish (38.6 million) alone or in any combination populations made up over half of the White alone or in combination population in 2020.

Census History: 300 million population celebration in 2006 [ [link removed] ]
On October 17, 2006, Census Bureau Director Charles Louis Kincannon announced that the U.S. population [ [link removed] ] had reached 300 million.
Previous population milestones were 200 million in 1967, 100 million in 1920, and 50 million in 1880.

Census History: 72 year rule [ [link removed] ]
On October 5, 1978, the “72-Year Rule" became law.
This law restricts access to decennial census records to everyone except the individual named on the record or their legal heir for 72 years from the date of the census.
