John — the International Olympic Committee just announced that the number of cities that could theoretically host the Winter Olympics will drop to only 10 cities (!!!) by around 2040.
This means there are only 10 areas in the entire world that will still have the winter conditions needed to host the Olympics by 2040. This alarming statistic shows the drastic effects that climate change is having on our world.
With melting glaciers, rising sea levels, and rising temperatures, areas with snow are becoming more barren every season. The news about the Olympics is just the latest update for our warming planet, and it means we need to act.
Our SEEC Members — like Rep. Brittany Petterson of Colorado — are working to reduce the impacts of climate change on our winters. Record breaking temperatures mean more varied snowfall each year — which has a drastic impact on both our environment and snowsports.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
