Since her first day on the campaign trail, Alexandria has been demanding that the rich pay their fair share.
Last month, the IRS announced an effort to shift their focus away from working-class taxpayers and towards 1,600 millionaires and 75 hedge funds with past due taxes.
Today, the IRS reported back that they’ve closed 100 of the cases they opened — and collected $122 million in unpaid taxes. Just last month.
Looks like taxing the rich actually works 🤷🏽♀️
Recent estimates show that the top 1% gained $6.5 trillion in wealth in 2021, but failed to pay more than $163 billion in taxes that same year1 — making them the most significant tax evaders in the country.
Yet House Republicans made it their top legislative priority this year to claw back 25% of funding allocated to the IRS by Democrats in the Inflation Reduction Act.
Republicans then demanded tax breaks for the ultra-rich, while making cuts to SNAP to take food out of babies’ mouths — instead of re-examining the Trump tax cuts that added millions to our national debt.
In solidarity,
Team AOC
