Tell President Biden to Establish the Chuckwalla National Monument

A coalition of Tribal, local, and national advocates are leading the push to establish the Chuckwalla National Monument.

Permanent protections for Chuckwalla will preserve the fragile desert ecosystem and species such as the chuckwalla lizard, bighorn sheep, and desert tortoise. It would also expand equitable access to nature, benefit local economies, and honor local Indigenous cultural histories.

Add your name to help us reach 3,000 signatures urging President Biden to designate Chuckwalla National Monument.

Friend — a coalition of environmentalists and Indigenous communities is urging President Biden to use the Antiquities Act to designate Chuckwalla National Monument in an area of the California desert stretching from Joshua Tree National Park to the Colorado River.

These crucial lands contain fragile desert ecosystems and are home to wildlife such as the chuckwalla lizard, bighorn sheep, and desert tortoise.

Protections would enhance equitable access to nature for local communities, while benefiting local economies, and honoring the Indigenous cultural histories and tribal heritage values of the Cahuilla, Quechan, Serrano, Chemehuevi, and Mojave peoples.

We need your help to reach 3,000 signatures from environmentalists like you demanding that President Biden name Chuckwalla as our newest National Monument. Please take action today — it only takes a minute to make a real difference >>

Conserving public lands helps ensure equitable access to nature for local communities, honor the cultural landscapes, and address the climate and biodiversity crisis. The Biden-Harris administration has already committed to protecting 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters by 2030 — a goal that reflects what scientists around the world say is an essential component in dealing with climate change. We cannot waste a moment to reach this goal.

President Biden can take action to protect Chuckwalla right now using his authority under the Antiquities Act to designate national monuments, ensuring permanent protections and access to public lands for nearby communities and future generations. But we need your help to make it happen — that’s why we’re asking:

Can you add your name to help establish Chuckwalla National Monument today? It only takes a moment to help us reach our signature goal. Take action to urge President Biden to honor his commitment to protecting more public land >>

Thank you for taking action to protect public lands.

Onward,
