John,
After the Israeli army called for the immediate displacement of 1.1 million Palestinians while bragging about dropping 6,000 bombs on Gaza within the span of a week, our Justice Democrats incumbent Rep. Cori Bush stepped up and took action.
She introduced the Ceasefire Now Resolution in Congress, calling for urgent de-escalation and a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza while demanding humanitarian aid be delivered to the 2.2 million Palestinians facing unimaginable violence paired with lack of access to electricity, food, and water.
It may be unpopular with her out-of-touch colleagues, but Cori is speaking truth to power and calling this conflict what it is: genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
It takes a huge amount of political courage to do what Cori did. While we know she is standing on the right side of history, Cori is currently facing political attacks from opponents on both sides of the aisle like never before ahead of her 2024 re-election race.
The Israeli government’s violent escalation against innocent Palestinian civilians — mostly women and children — and the response from mainstream media and the political establishment have further shown just how imperative it is that we work to elect (and re-elect) diverse progressive leaders like Cori who are unafraid to stand up for the human rights of ALL people.
If we are ever going to end the cycle of violence and forever wars and if we want a safe return of hostages, we desperately need more representatives like Cori in office to challenge the status quo.
Thank you for being with us during this difficult time, and remember to take care of yourself as best as you can.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
