Dear Friend,

This week, the death toll inflicted by Iran-linked Palestinian terrorist groups in Israel climbed above 1,400. Included in that grim total are at least 31 Americans – and other U.S. citizens remain unaccounted for.

In addition, some 200 Israelis, U.S. citizens, and foreign nationals were abducted and are reportedly being held hostage by Hamas terrorists – who have threatened to execute them

It’s outrageous.

Despite these brazen, unprovoked, and savage attacks on civilians, Americans have been confronted with shocking scenes across our own country of people seeking to blame the victims for this unspeakable violence.

College campuses, including in Wisconsin, have jumped at the opportunity to demonize Israel and whip up antisemitic hatred against Jewish Americans

Even members of the far-left progressive caucus have been repeating the lies of Hamas terrorists – with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) going as far as leading a pro-Hamas riot on Capitol Hill. You can watch my comments on Rep. Tlaib’s actions here.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Others in Congress have called for opening America’s borders wider – this time for thousands of Palestinians – something that even neighboring countries in this dangerous region have flat-out refused to do.

Sounds crazy, right?

Yet when asked if they were considering such a scheme, a White House spokesman only said there was no plan to do so “at this time.”

Here’s the bottom line: The last thing Americans want to see is another repeat of what we saw two short years ago when the Biden administration brought in nearly 80,000 Afghans first and asked questions later.

That’s why I introduced the GAZA Act, which would explicitly prevent the Biden administration from exploiting our visa laws or abusing so-called “parole” authority to resettle Palestinians in the U.S. As I write to you now, 20 House lawmakers have signed on to my bill as cosponsors, and Senator Steve Daines of Montana has introduced a companion version of my bill in the U.S. Senate.

I also called on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas this week to come clean with the American people and make a clear, public commitment not to try to use loopholes in the law to flood our country with foreigners from a region that is well-known as a global hot spot for Islamic terrorism. You can read that letter here.

Thanks again for starting off your weekend with us! We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Tiffany Telegram.

Sincerely,

An open southern border is a recipe for disaster
The Biden administration’s weakness has led to chaos around the world, and now, both the FBI and Department of State are warning U.S. citizens to be on alert for targeted terrorist attacks at home and abroad. Following the horrific terrorist attack on Israel, the State Department issued a worldwide caution alert for U.S. citizens who are traveling internationally – emphasizing the potential for terrorist attacks against American citizens overseas. This comes after the FBI cautioned of “lone actors” who may try to pull off a Hamas copycat attack on American soil. It goes without saying that the safety of the American people should be the Biden administration’s number one priority. So why do they insist on leaving the U.S-Mexico border wide open? The Chief of the Border Patrol reported this week that over a thousand known “gotaways” per day are crossing our dangerously porous southern border. These are individuals we know nothing about, and who could be potential terrorists. That’s why the Senate Democrats must put the safety of American citizens first and pass the Secure the Border Act now. House Republicans already did our job by passing it back in May, and it’s now up to Democrats to decide if they want to protect the American people.

I supported Jim Jordan for Speaker
I know many of you have seen the news surrounding the Speaker race for the House of Representatives, and I wanted to provide an update. Having served with Jim Jordan on the House Judiciary Committee for the last three years, I believe he has the leadership and vision to lead the House. That’s why I voted for him for Speaker every single time this week. Unfortunately, with such a small Republican majority in the House, he did not gain the needed support to become Speaker, despite nearly 90% of our Republican Conference supporting him. On Monday, the House Republican Conference will begin the process to elect a Speaker again, but I want to be clear about one thing: I am against the notion of electing a temporary House Speaker. We do not need to kick the can down the road. We need to get back to work on behalf of the American people, and it starts with us electing a Speaker.

Great seeing a friendly face in Washington
I had a wonderful visit from State Representative Rob Summerfield and his family this week. Rep. Summerfield represents Bloomer, Chippewa Falls, and Cornell, and it was great to see a friendly face in Washington this week. My office also helped his family set up a tour of the U.S. Capitol. If you are ever visiting Washington D.C., please give my office a call so we can help you get tours of the U.S. Capitol, White House, and more.

Thanks to Representative Summerfield for stopping by my D.C. office this week.

Natural Resources
Border crisis: Trashing nature, harming wildlife
There are 1,965 miles along the southern border, 35% of which are located on federal lands – and they are being severely impacted by the nonstop flow of illegal aliens into our country. The amount of trash, environmental degradation, and illegal marijuana grow sites is shocking. As somebody who has been to our southern border many times, I can speak firsthand to the amount of trash that piles up as a result of illegal immigration. That’s why yesterday, I held a hearing in the Federal Lands Subcommittee on three pieces of legislation that will help address the crisis at the border, including one of my bills, the TRASHED Border Act. It’s estimated that each illegal immigrant will discard between 6 to 8 pounds of trash as they illegally cross our border. Not to mention the toxic chemicals, including banned pesticides, that the cartels are tossing out at illegal marijuana grow sites. Needless to say, illegal immigration is harming wildlife, destroying habitats, and damaging our natural resources. My bill would direct land management agencies to implement protocols to limit the amount of waste discarded on our border and require public reports about the amount of trash collected to ensure there is greater attention and transparency brought to this issue. You can watch the questions I asked our witnesses here.

Biden’s green fantasy empowers our adversaries
This week in the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee, we held an oversight hearing regarding President Biden’s offshore leasing program. We reviewed the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s five-year plan which was submitted over 450 days late – with the lowest number of potential lease sales of any plan ever submitted. It is yet another example of the Biden administration’s war on American energy that will stifle domestic production and make us more reliant on other nations for the energy we need to fuel our economy. Keep in mind, this week Biden eased sanctions on Venezuelan energy – so while he is making it increasingly difficult to develop energy right here at home, he is making it easier for adversarial nations to produce their own energy. Domestic energy production is not just about prices at the pump, it is a key component of our national security. Right now, we are in a managed decline in America, and that is directly tied to President Biden’s anti-American energy policies. You can watch me question the witnesses here.

Recent Legislation

Protecting those who protect us
Every day, thousands of law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect and serve us. While these men and women may find themselves in dangerous situations, they put on their badge proudly to keep our communities safe. Unfortunately, over the last few years with the growing anti-police rhetoric, Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies, and continued calls to defund police departments, officers have been under increased attacks, including here in Wisconsin as we have seen four officers killed in the line of duty just this year. These attacks on our officers have no place in our society, and those who perpetrate them should be punished to the maximum extent of the law. That’s why, I cosponsored the Protect and Serve Act to ensure that those who deliberately harm law enforcement officers are held accountable for their actions with enhanced criminal penalties, including receiving life in prison for killing or injuring an officer. You can read more about this bipartisan legislation here.

Photo of the week
On this very day 74 years ago, Louis Spray caught the world’s largest musky in Hayward. The 69-pound 11-ounce and 5 feet 3 ½ inches long musky still holds the world record today. I couldn’t pass up this opportunity to share photos of just how big Mr. Spray’s catch was. If you have a photo of the week you want to share, please email it to [email protected] with your name and location.
