Governor Walz Celebrates 2023 Governor?s Pheasant Hunting Opener

This past weekend, Governor Walz celebrated the eleventh annual Governor?s Pheasant Hunting Opener in Owatonna and Steele County. The weekend included a public lands celebration, community gathering, hunters? breakfast, and a post-hunt lunch.

*?As a lifelong hunter and Pheasants Forever member, the pheasant opener is one of my favorite times of year,?*?said Governor Walz.?*?Thank you to the community of Owatonna and Steele County for making the opening weekend of the pheasant hunting season a memorable one. A celebration like this gives us the opportunity to make memories with friends and family, recognize the incredible conservation work that makes this sport possible, and showcase outstanding communities across the state.?*

*"We have some of the best pheasant hunting in the country. We?re working to make sure it stays that way ? and our $10 billion outdoor recreation economy and deep commitment to conservation prove it,"* said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.?

In Thief River Falls, Governor Walz Highlights Investments in Child Care, Workforce Development

Governor Tim Walz this week visited Thief River Falls to highlight investments in child care and workforce development in Greater Minnesota. Governor Walz first visited DigiKey, an electronics manufacturer, to tour their recent 2.2 million square-foot expansion that is set to create about 1,000 new jobs in Thief River Falls. Governor Walz also visited the construction site of the new cargo hangar at the Thief River Falls Regional Airport, a project funded through the infrastructure package signed into law last session.

*?Thief River Falls is home to businesses that power the state and regional economy,?*?said Governor Walz.?*?By investing in child care and local infrastructure, we?re allowing businesses like DigiKey to grow and providing middle class families the support they need to work.?*

Lieutenant Governor Flanagan to Receives Flu Shot, COVID-19 Booster

On Thursday, Lieutenant Governor?Flanagan got her annual flu shot and updated COVID-19 vaccine.?

As Lieutenant Governor and a community member I am encouraging Minnesotans to take action to protect themselves and those around them," *said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.

*"I deeply appreciate?the dedicated?healthcare providers serving our communities?across the state. If you need assistance getting connected with a Vaccine, the great people at the Minnesota Department of Health are here to help."*

Governor Walz, St. Paul Mayor Carter Highlight Impact of $300 Million Local Public Safety Investment

On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, Governor Walz and St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter held an event in St. Paul highlighting how the city of St. Paul is using the local public safety aid they received from the state.

This year, Governor Walz signed $300 million [ [link removed] ] into law for cities, counties, and tribes to meet their unique public safety, fire, or emergency management needs. St. Paul received $13.6 million from the state and are focusing the funds on ensuring police officers have the resources they need.

*"This was an historic investment in public safety,"* said Governor Walz. *"The approach we took is that local officials know best and putting the resources in the hands of folks who can tackle the individual and unique issues in each community is what we should be doing."*

On Statewide Tour Stop in Baxter, Governor Walz Highlights Investments in Pre-K

Childcare Event

Governor Tim Walz this week visited Warrior Early Learning in Baxter as part of his statewide tour highlighting investments made in pre-K this year. Because of this legislation, 9,000 children across the state will attend pre-K that wouldn?t have otherwise, saving families money and expanding access to early childhood education. Without this funding, Warrior Early Learning would have lost 100 percent of their pre-k seats this year.

*?Across the state, we are opening classroom doors for 9,000 pre-k students,?*?said Governor Walz.?*?This investment gives our kids a leg up early in life while saving middle class families thousands of dollars a year on child care. It?s an investment that will pay off in the here and now and for years down the line.?*
