Governor Murphy Update

Governor Murphy Update

Gov. Murphy and a delegation from his administration began an economic mission to East Asia last Sunday to showcase New Jersey’s innovation economy, talented and highly educated workforce, great schools and progressive set of values.

“New Jersey is a global leader in life sciences, fintech, and infrastructure, which are key areas of investments for East Asia,” said Governor Murphy. “Our state is also home to the fourth highest percentage of Asian Americans of any state in the nation, with nearly one million Asian American residents living in New Jersey. By deepening our economic and cultural ties, we can grow our economies and generate good-paying jobs for families on both sides of the Pacific.”

The 2023 New Jersey East Asia Economic Mission is sponsored and fully funded by Choose New Jersey and is an opportunity to “reintroduce” our state to key Asian economies, including Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. The schedule includes meetings with companies and executives, trade organizations, government officials, higher education leaders, startup incubators, and other key commercial and economic partners. The key industry sectors of focus throughout the trip are infrastructure, clean energy, financial services, life sciences, technology, logistics, manufacturing, and food and beverage. The New Jersey-Japan and New Jersey-South Korea relationships generate more than $13 billion in annual shared economic activity.

More than 60 people from business and government are accompanying the Governor and his team on at least part of the trip, including representatives from 16 industry companies, 11 law or public affairs firms or offices and seven institutions of higher education. (See complete list here.)

President Biden Update
Governor Murphy Update

This week the Medicare open enrollment period began and will continue until December 7th, 2023, giving Medicare beneficiaries the opportunity to make changes to how they receive their Medicare coverage. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, and further actions from the Biden Administration, starting January 1, 2024:

  • Seniors and other Part D enrollees with high drug spending will have their out-of-pocket drug costs capped at about $3,500 next year, and all enrollees will have their costs capped at $2,000 in 2025.
  • Low-income seniors and disabled people will be able to get more help paying for their premiums and cost-sharing through the expanded Extra Help program.
  • Medicare beneficiaries will continue to have their insulin costs capped at $35 for a one-month supply of insulin.
  • Recommended vaccines will be free for those on Medicare.
“Medicare is a lifeline for millions of seniors, and I will continue the fight to lower health care costs and protect Medicare for generations to come,” said President Biden. Democrats have continued to prioritize reducing income inequality by advocating for higher wages for workers, affordable housing, and accessible healthcare in order to provide the American people with a stronger foundation for economic stability. Through these targeted investments and policies, we can revitalize the economy while continuing to prioritize the needs of American workers and families. Millions of Americans depend on Medicare for their healthcare services so it is critical that it remains accessible and affordable in order to be equitable.
