Dear neighbor,

Despite House Democrats’ repeated calls for a bipartisan path forward, this week extreme MAGA Republicans continued their infighting. The House Republican Conference selected Jim Jordan, an extremist and insurrectionist sympathizer, as their candidate for Speaker. Jim Jordan sponsored legislation to create a national ban on abortion with no exceptions and advocates for deep cuts to Social Security and Medicare. With each successive round of voting, Jim Jordan keeps getting fewer votes for Speaker. The American people deserve better.

House Democrats stand united against MAGA extremism and will work to continue delivering for the American people. When rational Republicans are ready to abandon the extremists in their Conference, we will be ready to govern. Americans deserve leaders focused on unity and progress, not division and dysfunction.

House Democrats are focused on the urgent crises around the world, including the need for humanitarian aid in Israel and Gaza. I continue to mourn with Israelis and Americans who lost loved ones, and I desperately hope for the safe return of those still being held hostage by Hamas. I mourn for the loss of life of Palestinian civilians in this conflict.

I applaud the Biden Administration for announcing humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, and I support the United States’ push to ensure that civilians in Gaza continue to receive access to food, water and medicine. Organizations like Hamas foment terror by committing gruesome acts of violence against innocent people. They don’t ascribe to any international conventions of morality and decency.

Israel has the right to dismantle Hamas. I agree with President Biden that Israel should follow the law of armed conflict. Israel can demonstrate its strength as the only Democracy in the Middle East through a lawful response that draws a distinct contrast between it and ruthless terrorists.

My staff and I continue to monitor the situation in Israel closely. Stay updated on guidance from the U.S. Embassy in Israel regarding security and travel for Americans here.
