Friends, I announced in March that I was running for Governor and, since then, I’ve had the distinct honor of criss-crossing our great state talking to Louisianans from Lake Charles to Laplace and Buras to Bossier City. One thing became clear - this campaign was about something much bigger than an election, it was a movement to change our expectations and heighten our belief in what Louisiana can be. Although I did not achieve my ultimate goal which was to be your Governor, my faith in the people of this state has been reinforced time and again. Now, we must rally around the next era of Louisiana leaders as they tackle the issues that face our people everyday. I wish success and offer my full support to Governor-elect Landry, his wife Sharon and all who will serve our state as a part of his administration. Additionally, I offer my full support to the other statewide elected leaders and the newest class of legislators. The task ahead is arduous, but by pulling together I know we are capable of weathering any storm ahead. There is no amount of thanks that can be expressed for the role each of you have played in this campaign. Between your messages and notes of encouragement, the calls and letters you helped to make and send, the sign waving and dollars donated and the heartfelt prayers, they all went into shaping a message that we could share with the voters of Louisiana. This chapter has come to a close, but I can make one final promise to each of you: I will always keep Louisiana close to my heart and fight for it everyday.
