We’re now 17 days since Kevin McCarthy’s ouster as Speaker of the House – and we still don’t have a new permanent Speaker.

Right now, Jim Jordan remains the frontrunner to be the next Speaker – but after multiple votes, he’s still struggling to get enough support from his own party to move forward.

What might happen next is up in the air: Rep. Jordan himself has flip-flopped multiple times in the last few days on his path forward. But one thing is very clear: the road to retaking the House next year – and denying that Speaker a Republican majority – runs right through Ohio. So we’re asking: Will you pitch in right now to help elect Ohio Democrats and elect a Democratic House?

This chaos in the House has real consequences for our country. Even as the Senate and the White House work to advance policies to help American families, the House can’t get anything done.

And a lot is on the line: We’re just a few weeks away from government funding running out, which would disrupt everything from food safety inspections to funding for early childhood education to food assistance to transportation and infrastructure projects.

But still, despite everything at stake, the GOP can’t pick a Speaker – because Jim Jordan is so unpopular even amongst his fellow Republicans that he can’t secure the 217 votes needed.
