American Culture Needs You to Cheer on Your Pastor
By: Paul Batura
As a general rule, Americans and American media spend considerable time, financial resources, and attention on a few select people who hold significant positions of authority and influence.
Consider: Back in 2020, nearly $6 billion was spent on a presidential campaign that elected one man. An additional $8 billion was raised and spent to elect 435 members of the House of Representatives and 33 members of the United States Senate.
The current presidential and congressional races for 2024 have only just gotten started, but we can expect similar financial expenditures — and probably even more dollars pumped into the economy given inflation and public interest.
The current debate raging in the House of Representatives over the election of a new Speaker puts all eyes on just one seat, albeit a significant and highly influential one.
History has long lauded and highlighted the power of one: One leader who rallies the troops, one idea that gives rise to a revolutionary movement, and one vote that determines the outcome of one piece of legislation that impacts everyone.

New Jersey Congressman Calls Pregnancy Resource Center a ‘Brainwashing Cult Clinic’
By: Nicole Hunt
A New Jersey congressman accused a local pregnancy resource center of being a “brainwashing cult clinic” for helping women who find themselves in unplanned pregnancies. Representative Josh Gottheimer made the shocking allegation at a press conference he held across the street from Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center.
According to his official website, the purpose of his press conference was to kick off a campaign to “shutdown deceptive anti-choice clinics.”
In an exclusive interview with Focus on the Family’s Daily Citizen, Executive Director of Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center Debbie Provencher said, “Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center was shocked and saddened by this surprise attack on our Hackensack center by a congressman committed to serving our community.”
According to Provencher, “Rep. Gottheimer never took the time to learn about our center, and instead made untrue and inflammatory statements about Lighthouse, other pregnancy centers, and even our supporters.”
Provencher told Daily Citizen that Lighthouse Pregnancy Resource Center has four locations in New Jersey and they are actively serving women, men and children in the community with “free medical services, and ongoing educational, emotional, and spiritual support.”
Provencher continued, “We have great reviews, which can be easily found online. We partner with many other nonprofits in our community, including local hospitals.”

Celebrating Clarence Thomas’ Remarkable 32 Years on the U.S. Supreme Court
By: Zachary Mettler
Thirty-two years ago, Justice Clarence Thomas was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the 95th associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
The 75-year-old native of Pin Point, Georgia, was nominated by former President George H.W. Bush to succeed Justice Thurgood Marshall — the first African American to serve on the high court.
Thomas was confirmed by the Senate on October 15, 1991, by a vote of 52-48, the narrowest margin in a century, becoming the second African American to serve as a Supreme Court justice.
Since assuming his office on October 23, 1991, Clarence Thomas has become widely regarded as one of the most stalwart constitutionalists and originalist justices on court. Thomas is now the longest serving living justice on the Supreme Court.
Thomas’ personal story of growing up in abject poverty in the racially segregated South — being raised primarily by his grandparents — to becoming a Supreme Court justice is as remarkable as it is American. Thomas is a devout Catholic; he studied to become a priest before entering law school. He’s known to attend daily mass before heading to work, saying it gives him “the strength to do what I have to do every day.”
Day in and day out, Clarence Thomas has been — by far — one of the court’s most consistent defenders of the Constitution. In my humble opinion, Thomas is the single greatest living American.

Harvard Faces Backlash After Students Support Hamas and Blame Israel
By: Jeff Johnston
Harvard University and some of its students are facing backlash after 34 student groups signed a statement blaming Israel for the Hamas invasion last week. The terrorist group killed infants and children, raped and murdered women, and took almost 200 hostages.
“More than 1,400 Israelis have died since the Hamas assault began,” The Wall Street Journal reported on October 16, adding, “In Gaza, officials said the Palestinian death toll is at 2,750. The number of U.S. citizens killed has risen to 30, while 13 remain unaccounted for.”
The Wexner Foundation sent a letter to the university, saying it was ending its partnership with Harvard’s Kennedy School, the university’s school of government and public policy, reported Judah Ari Gross, news editor at eJewishPhilanthropy.
The foundation joins donors, CEOs, university board members, alumni and others who are criticizing both the university and the members of student groups that signed the statement.
The Harvard Palestinian Committee wrote the “Joint Statement by Harvard Palestine Solidarity Groups on the Situation in Palestine,” and coordinated the signing by 33 other student groups. The statement said:
“We the undersigned student organizations, hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence. … The apartheid regime is the only one to blame. Israeli violence has structured every aspect of Palestinian existence for 75 years.”

Bridget’s Cradles Spreads Hope of Heaven This October
By: Emily Washburn
October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day and Ashley Opliger is busy setting up for Wave of Light — a candle light vigil hosted Sunday by her non-profit, Bridget’s Cradles, to celebrate the lives of babies born into heaven.
The event, complete with 50,000 blue, pink and white lights to represent babies in heaven, “is a beautiful night to be together as a community and know we’re united in our heartbreak, but we’re also united in this hope we have to see them again,” says Opliger, who took a break from setting up the vigil to speak with the Daily Citizen.
Ashley and her husband, Matt, started Bridget’s Cradles less than a year after their daughter, Bridget, was born into heaven in October 2014. Though only 24 weeks and five days old, the Opligers could see God’s design in Bridget.
“She was fearfully and wonderfully made,” Ashley says, “Her fingernails and eyelashes — everything was formed and beautiful. She was just very tiny.”
Bridget was so small that she was swallowed by her hospital blanket, making her hard to see and hold. But, unbeknownst to Ashley, God had already provided the perfect solution. A week earlier, Ashley’s mom had been knitting a tiny blanket for her granddaughter when God inspired her to join the edges together to create a Bridget-sized cradle.
“[The little cradle] changed everything for us. It really comforted us in our grief. We felt like it was made specifically for her, and that God had given my mom this idea to cradle little Bridget …”
