John —

Congress is at a crossroads. It can move towards division and extremism or towards civility and leadership — put another way:

Congress must choose either to get nothing done or to lead for the hard working families they represent.

That shouldn't be a hard choice.

It's never been a hard choice for me.

As Lieutenant Governor, it is my job to bring civility and decorum to the state legislature — setting the tone as we discuss the future of our state and fostering bipartisanship as we represent hard working Washingtonian families, none of which is possible without good leadership.

I learned from a young age — by watching my parents actively engage with their unions — that leadership is about building consensus one person at a time and growing that consensus around the issues that matter most. A good leader doesn't work to gain power or inflate their vanity, but to bring people together and take on the tough issues.

That’s me, a newly elected member of the state House, in 1977, sporting groovy threads, baby face, and bipartisan spirit.

It's not always easy – partisanship rears its ugly head at the worst times – but it is important. Leaders who are there to serve can always overcome partisan squabbling. Just look at our most recent legislative session, 96% of bills passed with bipartisan support. That doesn't happen by accident.

I am committed to being a leader in our state, to taking on the toughest issues, and to humbly serving Washingtonians across our state. We have worked tirelessly to lead our state over the past three years, and I'm proud not only of what we've accomplished, but how we've done it.

Let's finish the job, John.

If you believe leadership is about more than grabbing power and partisan bickering, please join our campaign by donating $3 today. Serving Washington state is one of the greatest privileges of my life and I humbly ask for your support as we work to continue our service.

Thank you,

Denny
