John,
For decades, the oil and gas industry has perpetuated the lie that
fracking is “safe,” but we’ve seen the devastating impacts in our
communities. Fracking, which involves injecting water deep into the ground
to push up oil and gas, also requires a disposal of the chemical-heavy
wastewater. But these disposals disproportionately harm and impact
communities of color across the United States.
Fracking has a particularly disproportionate impact on Black communities
and pregnant people. It’s also one of the leading causes of the explosion
in US oil and gas production in the last ten years. With enough people
power, we can end fracking once and for all.
[ [link removed] ]Let’s stop fracking from destroying our climate and frontline
communities. Tell Congress to ban fracking now.
For the first time, we have a path forward to end fracking at the national
level. In conjunction with Senator Bernie Sanders' recent Senate bill,
Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Darren Soto introduced the first-ever
bill that would ban fracking nationwide while making Congress initiate a
just transition for the workers in the fracking industry.
Fracking is not clean or green whatsoever. Fossil fuel companies are still
building and planning new oil and fracked gas pipelines that will lock us
into years of devastating climate impacts to people, water, and land
across the country. Our federal lawmakers must fulfill their oath to their
constituents by making certain that the oil and gas industry can’t exploit
our most vulnerable communities any longer.
[ [link removed] ]It’s time for federal lawmakers to ban fracking once and for all.
Until we win,
Shireen
