Jack, good news. The federal judge overseeing the criminal case against Donald Trump for his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election has issued a gag order.

While Trump is free to criticize the U.S. Justice Department and state his opinion that the case is politically motivated, this freedom does not extend, said Judge Tanya Chuktan, to language that knowingly invites “threats and harassment of people who are simply doing their jobs.”

Trump's public statements were dangerously crossing the line to intimidating prosecutors, witnesses and poisoning the jury pool. It's about time that a federal judge put him in his place. But we know this is only the beginning.

As Trump runs for president while facing 91 criminal charges in four federal indictments, his lawyers will do all they can to postpone and delay the prosecution. It's an old Trump playbook to keep running the clock, in order to evade accountability. We cannot have that.

Donald Trump has the right to due process, but he also must be treated like any other criminal defendant facing charges. That means the trials cannot be needlessly delayed, and judges must issue gag orders whenever justified to prevent any witness or jury intimidation.
