Building a grassroots campaign for U.S. Senate in the country’s most populous state doesn’t happen overnight. So today, I want to pull back the curtain a bit.

Unlike many other states, California has an all-parties jungle primary. That means that not only will most of our state’s 22 million voters be seeing my name on the ballot for statewide office for the very first time — they’ll be seeing it alongside Republicans, Independents, and other Democrats. More than two dozen candidates in total.

California’s next U.S. Senator will be expected to take on the big fights and get things done. To protect our democracy. Protect our climate. And create an economy that works for everyone. That’s why Republicans are making me Public Enemy #1. They’ve seen how effective I can be. And they’re willing to go to any lengths to keep me out of the Senate.

In one of Kevin McCarthy’s first acts of his short-lived Speakership, he unilaterally removed me from the House Intelligence Committee — where I served as chair and the top Democrat on the committee for many years.

Matt Gaetz introduced legislation to try and bar me from receiving classified information the day we launched this campaign.

Then a far-right lawmaker introduced a resolution to censure me and fine me $16 million as punishment for investigating Trump’s abuses of office — and Trump issued personal threats to get every last House Republican to censure me. And they haven’t stopped attacking me since (Really, Trump went after me again just LAST week on a conservative radio program).

Trump and the MAGA movement are using every dirty trick in the book to defeat me. And Fox News is helping them do it. We need to reach every voter possible to share the truth about our campaign and ensure every voter knows about the work I’m doing to protect our democracy.

We have just over four months to continue building the largest grassroots campaign in the history of California — and that won’t come easily.
